Gene Bourassa, age 75, of Elma, IA died Tuesday, Sept 12, 2017 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI.

Gene was born November 26, 1941 in Rolla, N. Dakota to Eugene and Cecile (Roberge) Bourassa. He attended school in Rolla and from 1963 to 1965 he attended N. Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, N. Dakota. In 1965 Gene moved to Cresco to be a draftsman for Anderson/UBC Lumber, he later was a draftsman for Spahn and Rose. In 1985 Gene, along with two partners, founded Cresco Building Services from which he retired from in 2010.

Throughout his life he enjoyed camping with his family, woodworking, fishing, boating and watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events & other activities. He enjoyed helping family and others with odd jobs.

Gene is survived by his special friend, Suzanne Holmstrom of Elma; 8 children: Jackie (Bill) Cambridge of Omaha, NE, David (Chris) Bourassa of Lime Springs, Lori McCabe (Joe Dawley) of Decorah, Michelle (Rick) Kutchi of Springfield VA, Susan (Bryan) Adamson of Omaha, NE, Brady (Tami) Foster of Cresco, Jill (Jarvis) Whitinger of Nashua and Tara Foster of Cresco; 21 grandchildren: Sarah and Amy Cambridge, Joshua Bourassa, Tressa and Kaitlyn McCabe, Tara (Michael) Knutson, Brady and Chandler Dawley, Cameron and Jacob Kutchi, Bryanna and Samantha Adamson, Trista and Kyleigh Foster, Jasie K., Jared, Jakob and Jayla Whitinger, Brandi, Megan and Jordan Miller; 4 great-grandchildren: Josie, Syler, Clara and Gannon; and a sister, Lucy (Al) Jackson of Albuquerque NM. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Maple Leaf Lutheran Church.
