Berry left here shortly after New Year’s for a visit with relatives in Butler county, and died at Greene, in that county, last Saturday, his remains being expected here on the arrival of the morning train today. The funeral will be from the Methodist church at 10 o’clock today. The deceased was born m Pennsylvania, removing with his parents to Freeport, Ill., and with them to Foreston in this county in 1857, and from there to New Oregon in the fall of that year, locating in Cresco soon after the town was started in 1807. At the time of his death he was about forty-nine years of age. He was the eldest son of Charles E. Berry. For many years he had been afflicted seriously with asthma; from an attack of which he passed away. He leaves a widow and one son to mourn his death. Deceased was a good neighbor, an earnest friend, an honest, upright man whose memory will be cherished by a large circle of friends and acquaintances.Transcriber’s Note: New Oregon Cemetery records indicate he is buried there and was born in 1850 and died February 6, 1897; however, going by the information above the date of death was March 6, 1897. (Find-A-Grave information for his wife indicates it was March.)
