Iowa Plain Dealer December 1, 1896, FP, C4
The death of James Thomson occurred Sunday, and it is probable that his funeral will be Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational church and will be in charge of the Masonic fraternity. The deceased was somewhere about 56 years of age, had been a resident of the county for about forty years, coming here from Beloit, Wisconsin with his mother and family who located near Lime Springs. For the most of the time of the past 25 years he has lived at or near Cresco, at the time of his death he resided in the east part of the city. He was a mason by trade, his last work being the first ward school building and that like all his work being made upon honor. He leaves a widow and three children to mourn his death, beside a number of other relatives. An honest upright man, a true friend has been called to his reward.
Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone indicates he was born June 10, 1839.
