Woodrow Richard Dvorak age 93, of Riceville, Iowa known to all as “Woody”,died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the Colonial Manor, Elma, Iowa. Woody was born on May 20, 1919 east of Elma by Davis Corners, Iowa to Frank and Grace (Buckley) Dvorak. He attended local schools and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Riceville. Woodrow was united in marriage to Irma Jeanne Spurbeck on August 25, 1943 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia, Iowa. To this union six children were born. Woodrow and Jeanne farmed in the Riceville area and owned the Dvorak's Grocery and the Blue and White restaurant in Riceville. After retiring from the grocery business, Woody continued farming for several years. Survivors include four sons: Lee and his wife Rita of Riceville, Iowa; Dean of Stanley North Dakota and his ex-wife Becky of Rochester, Minnesota; Dennis and his wife Anita of Byron, Minnesota; Robert and his wife Roxanne of Riceville, Iowa; and a daughter, JoAnn, and her husband James Piper of Great Falls, Virginia. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Mary Dvorak of Elma, Iowa. Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents, Irma Jeann, a son Jon, and a brother Truman.
Cemetery:
