Walter M. Haynes, 92, of Cresco, died Tuesday, July 10 at Evans Memorial Home. He was born May 7, 1920 in Sioux Falls, S.D. His parents were Guy & Margaret Haynes of Waterloo. He married Ruth M. Rewoldt Dec. 8, 1943 in Frederika, IA, while on leave. After serving in the U.S. Army in WW II, he graduated from Iowa State Teachers College. He started his life long career in education, teaching Industrial Arts, Math and Science at Keystone & then Cedar Falls, IA. After receiving his masters degree from UNI, he was hired as Junior High Principal at Howard Winn. Com. Schools in 1960. He retired in 1983. He enjoyed his family, reading, playing cards, fishing & popcorn. He is survived by: his son, Allan (Barbara) of Tipton; his daughter, Deb (Steve) Hackman of Cedar Falls; 4 grandchildren, Scott (Kristin) Hackman of Orangevale, CA; Kayla (Chad) Schumacher of Fairbanks, AK; Rachel (Jeff) Thomas of Temple, TX; Amanda (Isaac) Masoner of Temple, TX. Four great-grandchildren, Paige & Grant Hackman; Peaceful & Jude Masoner. Two sisters-in-law, Arlene Moeller of Cloverdale, CA; and Evelyn Rewoldt of Cedar Falls & several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ruth, in 2010; brothers-in-law, Leo & Elston Rewoldt, Duane Moeller, Leo Buckendahl and Gerald Fox; one sister-in-law, Marcille Fox & a grandson, Matthew Hackman.
