Esther M. Linderbaum, 99, of Cresco, IA, died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 9th, at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Cresco, with Rev. Michael Carey officiating. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco. Friends may call from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Sunday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco. Esther Mae Linderbaum was born on May 24, 1913 to Herbert and Fannie (Harmon) Schaefer at their home east of Cresco. She graduated from Cresco High School in 1931. On February 14, Valentine’s Day, 1934 she married Arno Linderbaum in Preston, Minn. Arno and Esther farmed their entire married life north of Cresco, moving to their home in Cresco in 1978. They were members of the First United Methodist Church in Cresco since 1934. Over the years Esther did a lot of sewing for her family as well as canning garden produce and baking. During retirement Esther wrote about her childhood and life history; some of these stories were published in the Capper’s Weekly magazine. She and Arno traveled in Mexico and throughout the United States. Plates, button’s, wooden spools and cups were amongst the things Esther collected. Being the family historian, Esther kept track of birthdays, weddings and all other important family events. Both on the farm and in town she maintained vegetable and flower gardens. Survivors include five children, Darlene (George) Schmitt of Cresco, IA, Allyn (Connie) Linderbaum of Ridgeway, IA, Carol Seifert of Cresco, IA, Donna Gilman of Minneapolis, MN, and Steven (Julie) Linderbaum of Cresco; 17 grandchildren; 67 great, and great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Viola Platz of Cresco, IA and Luverne (Jim) Adams of Alexandria, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arno in 1994; a daughter, Marilyn Dvorak in 1984; son-in-law, Ron Dvorak in 1976; and a brother, Orvin Schaefer. Active casket bearers are her grandsons; Brad and Stacy Linderbaum, Tom Schmitt, Paul Hanson, Jay Seifert and Scott Dvorak. Honorary bearers are her grandchildren; Bruce, Brian and Dean Dvorak, Tim Schmitt, Shaun Linderbaum, Chad Seifert, Paula Sword, Pam Schmitt, Tammy Henderson, Jill Linderbaum and Julie Henry.
