LIME SPRINGS - Lois Helen Weyers-Cooper, age 92, of Lime Springs, Iowa died Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, Iowa.
A funeral service will be on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Lime Springs Community Center, 201 Center Street, in Lime Springs, with Dr. Donna Ihns officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date.
Lois Helen was born on Aug. 17, 1924 to Oscar and Lillian (Diercksen) Nelson on a farm near Marcus, Iowa.
She taught in a country school for two years before she married John Weyers in 1943. They became parents of two children, Jean and Gary. John died suddenly in 1975.
In October 1985, Lois married Kenneth (Kenny) Cooper. Her family grew that day to include two more sons, Roger and Norman.
After her marriage to Kenny, they did some traveling in their motor home, spending winters in Fiesta Village in Mission, Texas. Lois spent over 30 winters there and made many friends. The couple was king and queen of the popcorn machine,popping many bags in the REC hall. Lois also helped make many quilts for the missions in the area.
She is survived by her: daughter, Jean (Bernie) Van Veldhuizen; son, Gary Weyers (Karen Hobert); son, Dr. Roger Cooper; son, Norman (Mary Beth) Cooper; brother, LeRoy (Betty) Nelson; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grand-children; special family friends, Ron and Sharon Lance; and special friends, Kareen Johnson, Phyllis Stevenson and Donna Ihns.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband, John; husband, Kenny; parents; sisters, Lucille Briggs and Darlene Briggs; and brothers, Clifford Nelson and Orville Nelson.
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood was in charge of arrangements.
