Mr. and Mrs. Will Seeley brought the remains of .the former’s mother, Mrs. Helen Seeley from Preston, Minn, last Thursday for burial at Oak Lawn. Mrs. Seeley was an old resident of Howard county.

Transcriber’s Note: Cemetery records indicate the spelling as Seelye and her maiden name as Hill. It shows she was born in 1844.

OBITUARY.

Helen M. Hill was born Nov. 13, 1844 in Ashtabula Co., Ohio. In 1859 she came with her parents to Vernon Springs, Iowa, where she was married on April 6, 1861, to Thomas R. Seelye. To them were born eleven children, nine of whom are living. On Jan. 7, 1908, Mr. Seelye passed away at the home of their son W. T. Seelye, at Preston, Minn. In November of last year Mrs. Seelye fell from a buggy, injuring herself severely and was very ill for four months following. In June she was removed from Milford, Iowa, to Preston, Minn., where she passed away on Aug. 11 at eight o’clock p. m. Mrs. Seelye had been for years a faithful Christian, and a member of the Methodist church. During her illness she was agreat {sic} sufferer but no word of complaint passed her lips. She was well prepared for death, and all suffering was born with the words, “the dear Lord knows best.” Few death beds are attended by greater happiness than was hers. Her family and many friends will miss her kind and cheerful present. The funeral took place at the W. T. Seelye home at Preston at nine o’clock on Aug. 13, and interment was made at Oak Lawn cemetery at Cresco, where those who had gone before were laid at rest. Rev. John Gammons had charge of the service at the grave. The living children are Asa, of Burr Oak, Henry of Berlin, Oregon, Will of Preston, Samuel of Ontario, Oregon, Mrs. Julia Osborn of Milford, Ia., Mrs. Louisa Pratt of Viewfield, S. D., Mrs. Gertrude Boynton of Canton, Mrs. Helen Martin of Mason City and Mrs. Ethel Barnes of Mandan, N. D. The oldest daughter (Alice) died in October, 1893, and Ida in March, 1894. She also leaves twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
