Edwin J. Merry died at his home in Minneapolis, on July 16th, at the age of 65 years, death resulting from a combination of heart and kidney trouble. Funeral services were held at the home and the remains were brought to Cresco Saturday for interment the day following in the family lot in Oak Lawn. His wife and son Arthur, his sister, Mrs. Emma Blake, and Miss Prysinger, nurse, from Minneapolis, and his brother Geo. W. Merry and wife, from Milbank, S. D., accompanied the remains to Cresco. Edwin I. Merry was born Sept. 12, 1848, at Magog, Province of Quebec, Canada, and died at his home, 3308 Bryant Ave. South, Minneapolis, July 16th, 1914, aged 65 years and 10 months
In June, 1856, he came with his parents to Howard county, Iowa. He received his education in the district schools of the county and at Upper Iowa University at Fayette. He taught school several terms and later went into the meat and grocery business in Cresco in company with Crandall and Blake. In June, 1880 he went to South Dakota where he was one of the pioneer settlers of the town of Milbank, where he resided until the fall of 1888 when he went to Minneapolis where he resided until his death. During his stay in Minneapolis, he made a trip to the Atlantic and eastern cities, and four trips to California, Oregon and Washington from Old Mexico to Vancouver, B. C. . . .
He leaves a wife, one son Arthur D. who has been employed in the Northwestern National and First National Bank of Minneapolis for the past five years, also one sister, Mrs. Harrison Blake, of Minneapolis and one brother Geo. W. Merry, of Milbank, S. D.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Dr. Stanley Roberts were held at the home on July 18th and the remains brought to Cresco for interment the day following in Oak Lawn cemetery. . .
