- -The sad news of the death of our well known citizen Frank Mikesh came to us early Tuesday morning He died at his home Monday night, Jan. 19, 1914, after an illness of several weeks. The funeral occurred Friday, Jan. 23, from the Holy Trinity church at Protivin, and he was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Vytisk of Little Turkey performed the obsequies. The pall bearers were Carl Haug, C. F. Henser, John Kruska, Jos. Swehla, Chas. Kovarik and John Polansky. The deceased was a member of the Woodmen lodge. He was born near Spillville and at the time of his death was 35 years of age. About five years ago the deceased was united in marriage to Miss Albina Vrba of Protivin. He leaves to mourn his wife and son George, aged one year, an aged mother, two brothers, Mike and James of near Protivin, and sisters Mrs. Wagner of near Ridgeway, Mrs. Mike Kovarik, Mrs. Jim Kubik and Mrs. Pecinovsky of near Protivin and Mrs. Will Frey of Cresco. Many people from here attended the funeral at Protivin to show respect to their friends whose spirit has gone to the distant sphere and will no more visit his earthly home.

One day the fore part of last week, Mrs. Jim Wagner received the sad intelligence that her brother Frank Mikesh of Spillville had died during the night.
