Gilbert Terry Watros was born in Madison county, N. Y., Sept. 28th, 1835.
His father was William Chester Watros and his mother Hannah A. Cowles.
When he was but a child his people came west and located on a farm six miles west of Waukesha, Wis., His boyhood schooldays were in the neighboring school but later he completed a course in Waukesha.
Nov. 8, 1857, he was married to Elizabeth Adelaide Sprague of Waukesha county. In the spring of 1860 they decided to push further west and came to Winneshiek county, Iowa, by stage from McGregor to Decorah, and from there to the farm in Orleans twp. with an ox team.
The oldest child was born in Wisconsin but the rest of the children were all born on the farm in Orleans twp., during 34 years of this residence.
In the fall of 1894 the family came to Cresco for better educational advantages for the youngest children and have here remained.
