Marlys Loveless, 86, of Cresco, IA passed away on Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Cresco Care Center after a long illness.
Marlys Grace (Samuelson) Loveless was born May 10, 1923 at the family home in Mount Valley Township, Winnebago County, IA, the daughter of Gilbert and Mabel Samuelson. Marlys went to country school in Winnebago County, graduated from Forest City High School and Waldorf College. During World War II she taught in the Hanlontown Grade School, Hanlontown, IA. She continued her education at Mankato State in the earlier 1970's with honors.On June 1, 1947, Marlys married Boyd Loveless at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, IA. To this union were born four children. In 1957 Boyd and Marlys got into the Community Free Paper business by buying the Wesley Reminder, Wesley, IA which they sold in 1962. They then ventured to Arizona and purchased the 5-Star Shopper in Chandler, AZ. In 1965 they started the Cresco Shopper and with a lot of courage and intestinal fortitude managed it until their retirement.
Marlys was a very hard worker and was even putting in 65+ hour weeks in her early 70's until she retired because of multiple strokes. She was valued by her family and the Cresco Shopper family. Marlys will be sadly missed by all!
She is survived by one sister: Arlene Endreland of Lake Mills, IA; two sister-in-laws, Margaret Bolk, Sheffield, IA and Mattie Tweeten, Forest City, IA; three daughters: Mary Ann (Larry) Engebretson, Liberty, MO; Janet (Mark) Larson, Traer, IA; and Diana (Mike) Stevenson of Prairie du Chien, WI; a son, John Loveless (Peggy) of Cresco; an adopted son, Jim Loveless (Gwen) of Genoa, WI, an adopted daughter, Sue McGee of Vallejo, CA; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many neices and nephews.
Marlys was preceded in death by her husband: Boyd in 2007; parents: Gilbert and Mabel Samuelson; two brothers: Marvin Samuelson (who died in infancy) and Gerald Samuelson; two sisters: Cecil Tweeten and Gladys Halverson and one great granddaughter.

Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, IA from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to services at the church.Service:
