Margaret D. Callahan, long time resident of Cresco, passed away peacefully after complications from strokes on Friday April 14, 2017 at the Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco, IA. She was surrounded by her family.
Margaret was born July 27, 1931 at their house in Hesper Township in Winneshiek County to Claude and Bessie (Falck) Bronner. She was the second child born out of eight.
Margaret married the love of her life, William Henry Callahan, on January 21, 1955 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA. Together they had four children.
Margaret enjoyed rummage sales, flea markets, her many television programs, and any time laughing with her family. Margaret also loved watching her birds out her living room window. She enjoyed the love of many pets that she rescued throughout her life. She was a supporter of the North Iowa Humane Society. Margaret will be taking the ashes of three of her beloved pets with her to comfort her in eternal peace. Her recent years were filled with great-grandchildren and grandpuppies, and the comfort and peace of knowing, “I’m in God’s hands.”
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William in 1996, brothers Robert C. Bronner, Charles “Chuck” Bronner, and a sister and brother-in-law Doris and Merlin Heimerdinger, 4 great nephews, and a great niece.
She is survived by her children Peggy Callahan of Cresco, IA, Bill C. Callahan of Cresco, IA, Vicki Callahan of Mason City, IA, and Jane (Doug Zavitka) Callahan of Cresco, IA; her grandchildren Andrew (Amanda) Rink of Lake Zurich, IL, Amanda (Cody) Stockdale of Cresco, IA, and Jessica (Joshua) Kalvig of Barrow, AK; great-grandchildren Charlie and Eli Rink, Dash Stockdale, and Olivia Margaret Kalvig; and sisters Shirley (Al) Skoda of Cresco, IA, Claudette (George) Cable of Cedar Falls, IA, Joyce Kach of Hiawatha, IA, and Bonnie (Jerome) Samec of Manly, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, IA with Pastor Mike Simiele officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco, IA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at the funeral home.
