Dale Roy Bigalk passed away on October 25, 2016 after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Dale was born on Jan 24, 1948 the youngest child of Wellington and Juanita (Smith) Bigalk. He attended country school and graduated from Crestwood high school in 1966. He was drafted into the army and made his home in Washington state for many years. During time he married Jan Dahlberg and had 2 children: Jody and Angel. They later divorced. After retiring from the army he moved back to Iowa to his family farm. Little did Dale know that he would reconnect with his classmate, Shirley (Solomon) and they married soon after. Through this marriage he "inherited" 4 more children: Jodi, Susan, Mike, and Jon.
When you met Dale 3 things would stand out: his love of nature, his love of his Lord, and his love of his family. His favorite times were hunting, fishing, gardening, and mulling around the acreage usually with one or more grandkids following. Dale took pride in teaching them to eat cherry tomatoes right from the garden or the black licorice he kept in his pocket. All of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren thought he hung the moon and stars. There are no words to express the huge void we all feel now that he is in heaven.
Dale is survived by his wife Shirley, sons: Jody (Lisa) Bigalk of California, Mike (Deana) Hayek of Lorenz, IA and Jon (Fran) Hayek of Cresco, IA, daughters: Jodi (Donnie) Kappes of Cresco, IA and Angel Bigalk of Decorah, IA, 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren plus one on the way. He is also survived by one sister, Thelma (Wayne) Warnke, brother-in-law Kenneth (Wendie) Solomon, sister-in-law Sharon Solomon and many nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Wellington and Juanita, his daughter Susan, his 2 brothers, Walter and John and his parents-in-law, Wayne and Edith Solomon.
