NEW HAMPTON - Rose C. Weigel, 77, New Hampton, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000 from complications following emergency surgery at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.

Funeral services were Tuesday Nov 21 AT 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt and Rev. John Harpel officiating. Sr. Lorraine Loecher was organist and accompanied Rose Baltes, the cantor, and also the St. Joseph Resurrection Choir singing "On Eagle's Wings", "The Servant's Song", "Gift of Finest Wheat" and "How Great Thou Art". Ann Conway and Florence Throndson were lectors. Eucharistic ministers were Pat Schwickerath, Marlene Weigel, Ginny Laures and Sr. Phyllis Hackman. Rose's children were the gift bearers and placed the pall.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton with Jennifer Jacobson, John Weigel, Janice Stoll, Jeromy Winter, Tammy Winter, Melissa Winter, Julia Fohrman and Brian Fohrman serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Marlene Weigel, Mary Rosonke, Karen Schwickerath, Magdalen Wieling, Pam Pickar and Patricia Bruening.

Visitation was from 3 to 8 pm. Monday, Nov. 20 at Conway Funeral Home, New Hampton where there was a 4 pm. combined Catholic Daughters, Catholic Order of Foresters and Rosary Society Rosary. There was also a 7 p.m. scripture service. Visitation was also an hour prior to services at the church.

Rose Catherine Weigel was born Feb. 17, 1923 near North Washington, the daughter of Henry and Susan (Dockendorf) Schwickerath. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Church, North Washington. She attended country school near her home. The family moved north of Elma and she graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy, Elma. After her schooling, Rose worked at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN as a nurse's aide for two years. She then moved to New Hampton where she worked at Kammeyer's Grocery for about one year. On Sept. 19, 1944 she was united in marriage to Edwin Weigel at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Hampton. Following their marriage the couple farmed northeast of New Hampton until 1999 when they moved to New Hampton. Over the years she had spent many hours volunteering at the hospital. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community, Catholic Daughters of the Americas (Court Joan of Arc No. 388), Catholic Order of Foresters (Court 0984), Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, Rosary Society and the Hospital Auxiliary. She helped organize the Social Concerns and Food Pantry in New Hampton and was also the past president of the Porkette's in Chickasaw County.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin; one son, Andrew Paul (Gloria) Weigel, Qnalaska, WI; two daughters, Audrey Conner, Pineville, NC and Madonna (Mark) Fohrman, Dover, MN; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Buchholz, Evansdale; Ann (Donald) Cummings, Harmony, MN and Gertrude (LeRoy) Jacobson, Waterloo.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Alberta; one son, David; three brothers, Pete, Art and Bert Schwickerath; one sister, Agnes Kirst and three stepbrothers, Harold, Lloyd and Edwin Kirst.
