Dolores H. Schatz, age 90, of Cresco, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, IA. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Cresco, IA. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 14, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of service Saturday at the church.

Dolores Helene Zubrod was born November 5, 1925, in North Washington, Iowa. She was the 3rd child of seven children of John and Margaret Zubrod. She attended grade school in North Washington. She was a member of Notre Dame Circle Family of Faith.

On June 24, 1947, Dolores was united in marriage to Wilfred Schatz at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington, IA. They farmed west of Cresco for 54 years. Dolores lived there until Wilfred’s death in 2001. She moved to Cresco for 12 ½ years and then to Evans Memorial Home in 2014.

Dolores enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, and sewing. She loved playing cards with family. She was known for her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls, pancakes, and especially her apple pies. Seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren always gave her great joy.

Dolores is survived by her 8 children Norma (Gary) Coleman of Carrollton, TX, Josette Wilcox of Rochester, MN, Mary (James) Brigham of West Fairlee, VT, Thomas (special friend Beth Gausman Bucholz) Schatz of Lime Springs, IA, Janet (Thom) Mahr of Lime Springs, IA, Robert (Mary) Schatz of Lime Springs, IA, Don (special friend Carol Arneson) of Cresco, IA, Margaret (Robert) Ward of Ridgeway, IA, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Anna Marie Marvin of Nashua, IA and her brother Donald Zubrod of Cleghorn, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred Schatz, her parents John and Margaret Zubrod, sisters Lorraine Schmitt and Shirley Holzer, brothers Veryl and Reynold Zubrod, sons-in-law Richard Wilcox and Duane Irwin, daughter-in-law DaRhonda Schatz, and grandchildren Timothy and Heather Schatz.
