Henry, 90, died Sunday, December 31, 2000 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.

H. Henry Hughes was born May 22, 1910 at the family farm in Albion Township, the son of John Davis Hughes and Elizabeth Ann Hughes. He attended rural school on the farm property and graduated from Cresco High School in 1927.

Following the death of his father in 1927, Henry took over the operation of the 220 acre farm, notable for the red and white striped barn.

Among his most fondest memories were the years of farming with horses, and raising purebred Black Angus cattle. He lived on the farm with his mother and older sister, Lillian Phoebe.

On Ocober 30, 1955 he married Marjorie Ruth Loughrey at the Cresco United Methodist Church. They continued to farm until 1972, when they moved to Cresco. For many years following retirement, Henry was employed by the Methodist Church. During that time he also enjoyed being a member of the church choir.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie; one daughter: Lillian of Branson, MO; his stepchildren: Delores Nielsen of Altoona, Tom Loughrey of St. Louis, MO, and Mary Fredericksen of Cedar Rapids; five step grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.
