from Elma library collection assembled by Marian (Marr) McGeeA remembrance service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Conway Funeral Home in Elma for Olga Hopkins, 97, Elma resident who died Saturday, Jan. 8 at Colonial Manor Home in Elma.
The Rev. Catherine Luck and Dr. Douglas England presiding. Dr. Curtis Rainy will be organist and soloist will be Anna Mae Roethler.
Interment will be in Howard Cemetery at Elma.
The family will be present at the funeral home one hour before the service for visitation.
Olga Marie Hopkins was born Jan. 3, 1903 near Chester, Iowa, daughter of George R. and Dagmar Marie (Nielsen) Larsen. She was a graduate of LeRoy, Minn. High School and completed her education at Winona State Teachers College in Winona. She taught in the elementary school at Ostrander, Minn.
She married Ralph Hopkins June 18, 1928 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, and she and her husband moved to Elma in 1936 where they owned and operated Hopkins Hatchery until their retirement Dec. 31, 1965. They moved to Rochester after retirement and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 18, 1978 in Elma. She has made her home in Colonial Manor since February of 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Elaine (Lyle) Hart, Elma; two grandchildren, Scott Hart, Elma, and Heidi (Steve) Kessler, Chicago; two great-grandchildren, Melissa and Alexander Kessler, and a sister, Besse Larsen Cook, Redwood City, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph, who died April 25, 1983; a sister, Stella Johnson, and three brothers, Hans, Karl and Elmer Larsen.
