Kay Pamela (Billmyer) Eckerman, 72, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016.

She was born February 23, 1944 to the late Leo C. and Rose K. (Bouska) Billmyer in St. Paul, MN. She spent her youngest years in Ohio so her father could help with the war effort. Soon after, they moved back to Cresco where she spent the remainder of her childhood and most of her adulthood. Kay graduated from Crestwood High School in 1962 and obtained her Registered Nurse (RN) degree at Saint Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. On July 24, 1965, she was united in marriage at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church to her long-time sweetheart, Terry Eckerman. They raised three children together, Melissa, Tracy, and Eric. Kay worked as an RN at Evan’s Memorial Home and then Harmony, Minnesota Hospital. Eventually, she returned to the Evan’s Memorial Home and served as Director of Nursing (DON) there for several years. In 1995, she transitioned to the Patty Elwood Alzheimer’s Center where she also served as the DON. After retiring from nursing, Kay worked at Pine Needles Quilt Shop in Cresco, pursuing her love of quilting. She thoroughly enjoyed quilting, especially for her children and grandchildren. Kay participated in the church, teaching catechism during her children’s formative years, serving in the choir, lecturing, and helped out where needed. She also served as co-leader of the Cloverleaf Neighbors 4-H club for several years. Kay loved to travel, especially to witness all the beauty nature has to offer as well as to learn more about the history of our country. Her favorite destination of all, though, was their cabin on the Mississippi River at Prairie du Chein, Wisconsin.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Terry; her three children: Melissa Davis of Rochester, MN; Tracy (Ross) Wright of Bemidji, MN; and Eric (Jennifer) Eckerman of Monroe, WI; her brother, David Billmyer, of Rapid City, SD; seven grandchildren; and dog, Cookie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Rose (Bouska) Billmyer and beloved dog Sparky.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, IA. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Cresco, IA. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of service Friday at the church.
