Bernard Roesler, age 86 of Lime Springs, Iowa died Monday, June 27th, 2016 at the Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.

Bernard "Bernie" Dale Roesler was born in Howard County on December 26, 1929, the only child of Harold and Vera (Fisher) Roesler. He attended area schools and graduated from Lime Springs High School on May 20, 1947. Following High School Bernie worked at Rath Packing in Waterloo for four years. In 1951 Bernie joined the Navy for four years. He served sea duty on the USS Macon CA182 and the USS Wisconsin BB64 battleship. Following discharge from the Navy, Bernie joined his parents in their dry cleaning service in Lime Springs. While working at the dry cleaning service he also drove school bus for 10 years. It was also during this time that he started his 35 year career with the US Post Office; first for 10 years as a substitute mail carrier and later full time until he retired as Post Master in October of 1992.

Bernie married Betty Decker on August 19, 1956 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lime Springs. When they returned from their honeymoon they moved into the house Bernie had built for themselves; they lived in that house ever since.

Bernie was a Cub Scout Master for 3 years; served as Treasurer of Sunday School for 30 years and was a 50-year member of the Lime Springs American Legion Post #545. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and square dancing with Betty.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Betty Roesler of Lime Springs; two sons: Brian Roesler and fiance Shelly of Rochester, and Darwin (Shanda) Roesler of Owatonna, Minnesota; three grandchildren: Holly Marks, Amanda Schultz and Khole Wheeler; and one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Schultz. He was preceded in death by his parents.
