Arvilla A Allen, age 100, of Mabel, MN, formerly of Cresco, IA, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, IA. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Cresco, IA. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, at the church. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 404 N Elm Street Cresco, IA is in charge of arrangements.

Arvilla Ann Lageson was born on December 12, 1915, daughter of Albert and Anna (Henningsgaard) Lageson in Mabel, MN. She graduated with the 1933 Mabel-Canton High School class, and had been the last surviving member. During World War II Arvilla served on the ration board. On June 3, 1948, Arvilla married Stanley Allen in Caldonia, MN. They lived most of their 65 years together in Cresco, IA. Arvilla worked for the Mabel Post Office for over 20 years, several of those years she was the Postmistress. She was very active in her church and as an American Legion Auxiliary member. Arvilla enjoyed reading books and newspapers, planting flowers, and decorating her house. Last summer Arvilla celebrated her 100th birthday on her half birthday. She was worried no one would show up in December. Every Christmas she had to have lights put up. Arvilla’s nieces and nephews were the light of her life. She treated them as if they were her own children. At family functions Arvilla’s nieces and nephews looked forward to her Chocolate Marshmellow Cookies.

Surviving Arvilla are her many special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and great great great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her parents; husband Stanley, sisters Lorene Sartell and Ione Middlebrook.
