Lorraine Agnes (Miller) Brekke of Chester, Iowa died peacefully at home on April 8, 2016 at the age of 87.

Lorraine was born on February 26, 1929 to Frank and Mary Miller of Pocahontas, Iowa. Lorraine was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pocahontas and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School at the age of 17. In 1946 she moved with friends to Omaha, Nebraska where she attended secretarial school and worked for Woodmen of the World Insurance Co. She then moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa and worked for Bradey Transfer and Storage Company. She met William Brekke at the Laramar Ballroom in Fort Dodge in 1947. They married on October 6, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pocahontas. They initially resided in Webster City, Iowa until they moved to the family farm near Pocahontas. Lorraine and William raised 8 children on their farms at Pocahontas, Iowa, Cherry Grove, Minnesota, and finally Chester, Iowa where they have farmed for 54 years. Lorraine's life's work was her children. She was a strong role model, a caring mother, a wonderful cook, and a loving wife. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church community, a singer in the church choir and at community events, a member of the rural Meet Your Neighbor Club, a 4-H leader of the Saratoga Sunbeams for 15 years, and served on the Howard County Extension Council. Lorraine and William have been long time members of Teams of Our Lady. Lorraine enjoyed their retirement in Arizona where many happy winters were spent with friends at their Apache Junction home. Lorraine was most proud of her 8 children, 20 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. She leaves an indelible mark of strength and grace that comes from an abiding faith and love of family.

She is preceded in death by her son Thomas William, siblings Frances Williams, Janietta Kenning, Rose Becker, Vincent Miller, Irene Klocko, Vern Miller, and Margaret Waller, and her parents Frank and Mary (Lang) Miller.

Lorraine will be greatly missed by her loving husband William and their children Ann (Vincent) Steffen, Frank (Ruthann) Brekke, Michelle (Ray) Beets, Kathryn (Dean) Stern, Barbara (Brian) Hackman, Patricia (Michael) Magnuson, and Kristine (Jack) Larson; daughter-in-law Sherri (wife of Thomas); 20 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
