John William Albert, age 68, of Lime Springs passed away at Evans Rest Home, Cresco, IA on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.

John was born on October 7, 1947 in Lime Springs, Iowa to Lorraine W. and Tressa (Tibbals) Albert. He attended school in Chester, Lime Springs and Cresco, graduating in 1967. John was raised on his parent's farm in rural Lime Springs. He joined the Army National Guard at age 18, obtaining his training in El Paso, Texas. He received training in communications. He was a member of the Guard for 10 additional years. He was employed with Bell Telephone in Dubuque, Iowa and later transferred to GTE Telephone Company in Cresco from where he retired.

John was united in marriage to Judy Miller in LeRoy, Minnesota in 1968, two children were born to this marriage; Matthew and Andrea, they later divorced. Later he married Diane Venable in Cresco, one child was born to this marriage, Theresa, they also divorced.

John was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and going fishing with his son. He played in several pool tournaments and was a great gardener and canned much of his produce. John enjoyed reading and watching TV, especially Judge Judy and westerns.

John is survived by three children: Matthew (Kari) of Cresco, IA, Andrea Albert of Cedar Rapids, IA and Theresa Albert of Peoria, IL; six grandchildren: Lexi, Laci, Logan, Allie, Noah and Jay Dean; his mother, Tressa Albert of Hawkeye Care Center, Cresco; two sisters: Linda (Jim) Belken of Alden, IA and Patty (Larry) Houdek of Cresco, IA and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father, Loraine and his brother, Joseph.
