Lyle Allen Stevenson, 75, of Lime Springs passed away from complications of an aortic aneurysm on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse. He was surrounded by his family.
Lyle Stevenson was born on August 6, 1935 on a farm near Maple Leaf, Iowa to M. Ross and Laura (Larsen) Stevenson. His family moved to a farm east of Lime Springs in 1942 where Lyle has always enjoyed spending time. He attended country schools and graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1956.
In 1961, Lyle married Mary Ryon at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs. Lyle worked as a mechanic at the John Deere dealership in Lime Springs and Davis Corners. He then hauled cheese and milk for Johnsrud Trucking. Later, Lyle began hauling grain for Schwade Trucking and retired from A&K Feed and Grain as a truck driver in 2006 at the age of 70. Lyle could often be seen riding his bike or walking to work in the early hours of the morning and late hours of the evening.
Lyle dearly loved his three grandchildren, Laura, Isabel, and Nick as well as his granddogs. He enjoyed attending their activities, babysitting and letting them get away with too much!
Lyle loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR. He was able to go to a NASCAR race in Michigan and went on many family trips to Iowa football games. Lyle always made sure his neighborhood birds and squirrels were well fed. He enjoyed traveling and was able to take many trips in recent years including the Smoky Mountains, Dollywood, Branson, St. Louis, Nashville, San Francisco, Mackinaw Island, and Niagara Falls. Lyle was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs. He loved his family, family reunions and the big Stevenson family get togethers.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Todd (Dawn) Stevenson of LeRoy, Minn. and Matthew (Erin) Stevenson of Lime Springs; one daughter, Christena (Brent) Bowers of Platteville, Wis.; three grandchildren, Laura Stevenson of LeRoy, and Isabel and Nick Bowers of Platteville; one sister, Mildred Stevenson of Cresco, Iowa; two brothers, Harlan (Phyllis) Stevenson of Lime Springs and Gene Stevenson of Lime Springs; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Stevenson of Rochester, Minn. and Ann Stevenson of Stewartville, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by two infant daughters; his parents; two brothers, Hollis and Norman Stevenson; and nephew, Greg Stevenson.
Funeral services were held on December 6, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
