Monica M. Rink, age 81, of Cresco, IA, died Friday, January 8, 2016, at Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, IA. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Cresco, IA. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of service Tuesday at the church.

Monica Marie Havlik was born on June 17, 1934, in Pocahontas, IA, daughter of William and Laura (Zech) Havlik. She graduated in 1952 from Pocahontas High School, and continued on to become a nurse. On Monday, August 16, 1965, Monica married Philip J. Rink at Assumption Church in Cresco. Together they farmed northwest of Cresco. Monica was a member of Notre Dame Parish and faithfully recited the rosary. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, trips to the casino, eating out, and watching stock car racing. Monica also enjoyed attending bull riding and watching it on TV. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She loved polka music and dancing to it when she was younger. Monica had the gift of being able to hold a conversation with anyone. If you began the conversation as a stranger, you left as one of Monica’s friends. For the past 18 years Monica was a wonderful caregiver to her two granddaughters Alicia and Abby. Her love for Abby and Alicia was brighter than the sun could shine. She loved spending time with them whether it is driving them to school, grabbing a bite to eat, or babysitting them for the evening.

Surviving Monica is her two children William “Bill” Rink and Karen (special friend Bruce Kern) Buls all of Cresco, two granddaughters Alicia Marie Rink and Abby Mae Buls, a sister Pat Williams of Fort Dodge, IA, and brothers William Havlik of Fort Dodge, IA, John Havlik of Fort Dodge, IA, and Don Havlik of Englewood, Colorado.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Philip in 2006, son-in-law Verlyn “Butch” Buls in 2006, and sister Marian Supp.
