Karl E. Krause passed away on January 10, 2016, at Regional Health Services, Cresco, IA.
Karl E. Krause was born on December 22, 1919, on the family farm near Chillicothe, Missouri, the son of Phillip and Emma (Eberlin) Krause. Karl had a brother, Warren. Karl was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, MO. Karl attended Chillicothe High School graduating in 1938. He attended Chillicothe Business College and graduated in 1940. After graduation, he moved to Waterloo, Iowa and worked for J.C. Penny until October 1941, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was stationed for three years in Texas and California and was then sent overseas to serve in the European Theatre until October 1945, when the war ended.
On April 16, 1944, Karl married Maxine L. Krause in Dysart, Iowa. After Karl's return from the was in October 1945, Karl and Maxine moved to Cresco, Iowa, and Cresco was 'home' to them for the rest of their lives. In 1945, with partner, Claire Wyatt, they purchased the Keller Grocery Store and operated that business until 1950, when he sold his interest to his partner and began his career with the Cresco Vet Clinic. Karl was the office manager for the Vet clinic for thirty-five years, retiring in 1984.
Karl was a life-long member of the American Legion, served on the Cresco City Council for eight years, Cresco Airport Commission for thirteen years and Cresco Theatre commission for twenty years.
Karl and Maxine enjoyed their retirement years and filled their time with travel, gardening, friends and enjoying their home and church. In 2006, Karl and Maxine moved to the Cresco Assisted Living. In 2013 Karl moved to the Evans Memorial Home.
Karl is survived by his niece, Nancy (Jim) Kienast of Paris, TX and family, and nephew, Jim (Gloria) Krause of Sunnyvale, CA and family, and special friends, Ronda Hughes and Lori Lepa and their families. Karl was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine in 2010, his parents and brother, Warren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
