OBITUARY.
Many readers of the PLAIN DEALER will be surprised and pained at the sad news of the death of Mrs. A. J. Cray at her home in Lime Spring{sp} on Monday the 29th of last month. The shock is a great one and the community has hardly had time to awake to a sense of its loss. The slight cold contracted during a few hours repose rapidly developing into a serious case of pleurisy which all soon saw, would terminate fatally, and finally the end, all followed up in such rapid succession that relatives, friends and all alike were stricken dumb and awed at the swift and silent work of the grim monster.
As before said, Mrs. Cray’s illness of short duration began with her taking cold while enjoying repose for a short time Friday afternoon. Nothing serious was feared at first but she grew rapidly worse till in a short time life was despaired of and she passed away shortly after ten o’clock Monday morning surrounded by relatives and friends.
The funeral was held at the M. E. church on Tuesday afternoon at 2:15 and a large assemblage gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased and many followed her remains to their final resting place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
A few facts in the life of this noble lady are these: Her maiden name was Marion M. Haven and she was born on her grandfather’s place two and on{sic} half miles northwest of Lime Spring{sp} Dec. 26, 1866; attended school at the Glen Roy school house and afterwards at the public school at this place. Later she attended Upper Iowa university at Fayette. On the 29th of June 1892 she was married to Albert J. Cray. Their home previous to this past season has been at Beardstown, Ill. Always of a loving unselfiish{sp} and unchangeable disposition, she made friends wherever she was wont to go and was generally beloved by all who knew her.
Her taking away was a sad one and especially does it seem hard as we note that it is less than a year since the young wife of S. R. Cray, a brother of Albert’s was laid at rest. The whole community mourn her loss and extend heartfelt sympathy to the lone husband in this his great affliction.
