Grace Cecelia Andera, age 95, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015, at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa. A private funeral service was held at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home.
Grace was born March 10, 1920, to Joseph and Celia (Hovorka) Svoboda in New Oregon Township. She was the eldest of three children. Grace attended a rural school and Rudolphinum High School in Protivin. On November 10, 1941, Grace married her husband of 57 years, Albert Andera, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Grace was very devoted to her faith and family. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was active in the parish Rosary Society. Grace and Albert farmed near Schley where they raised six children. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling, and reading about new locations to visit. She especially liked traveling the western United States.
Grace is fondly remembered for her love of baking traditional Czech pastries and harvesting mountains of strawberries each summer. She was quick to offer her grandchildren bananas as a healthy snack and large kettles of spaghetti at supper time.
Grace is survived by her children Mary Ann Andera of Raton, New Mexico, Norma (Alois) Hoerler of Hartland, Minnesota, Kathryn (Thomas) Buckley of Elma, Iowa, Rita (Quentin) Pitzen of Iowa City, Iowa, Marvin (Marti) Andera of Cresco, Iowa, and Donald (Donna) Andera of Mililani, Hawaii; grandchildren Nicole (Shawn) Weitzel, Jason (Kari) Hoerler, Cory (Sarah) Hoerler, Amy Buckley, Chad (Shelley) Buckley, Todd Buckley, Curt Schmitz, Kelsey Andera, Kelli Schmitz, and Randi Pitzen; great grandchildren Miranda Goulet, Miranda Buckley, and Riley Weitzel; great-great grandchild Aiden Goulet.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband Albert on November 15, 1998, her sister, Rita Drtina, and brother, Arthur Svoboda, son in law Frank Gabriele, grandson Jeffrey Schmitz.
