Zenas L. Meyer, 94, of Cresco, IA passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, IA.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Nick March officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 19, 2015, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 123 North Main St. in Protivin, IA, with a rosary recital at 2:45 p.m. and a scripture wake service held at 7:00 p.m. His family will continue greeting guests at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Zenas Louis Meyer was born at home in Howard County, Iowa on January 5, 1921 to Louis and Wilma (Koshatka) Meyer. He attended country school and was a 1938 graduate of Rudolphinum High School in Protivin, IA. On December 29, 1941, Zenas was united in marriage to Dorothy Hosek at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Zenas farmed his entire life on his home farm, retiring in 1996. Together Zenas and Dorothy enjoyed volunteering for church and school events, whether it was giving rides to sporting events or being financial assistants for the church. Zenas was a member of the Knights of Columbus- 3rd Degree, Farm Bureau, N.F.O., and was also the New Oregon Fire Trustee and a voting precinct worker. In 1999, Zenas received the Pioneer Dairyman Award. In his spare time, Zenas loved to restore tractors and vehicles. He especially enjoyed many visits from family, always making sure he had cookies and treats waiting for them.

Zenas is survived by his children, Joyce Hrdina of West Des Moines, IA, Mary Jo (Ken) Hubka of Cresco, IA, Harold Meyer of Cresco, IA, Zenas “Bud” (Marilyn) Meyer Jr. of Cresco, IA, and Janelle (Neil) Mahr of Lime Springs, IA; grandchildren, Judi (Mark) Goodell, Shari Hrdina, Jerry (Haruka) Hrdina, Katie Hrdina, Scott (Jodie) Hubka, Kenneth (Laura) Hubka, Karen Hubka, Carla (Scott) Ludeking, Joe (Melissa) Meyer, Brandon (Alanda) Meyer, Kimberly (friend Joel Gebel) Meyer, Kayla (Steve) Soland, Jeffrey Meyer, Jessica (Tony) Heiden, and Daniel Mahr; 23 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Wilma, wife, Dorothy, infant daughter, Sylvia Ann, and daughter-in-law, Diane Meyer.
