DIED.
SIMONDS—In Cresco, Iowa, March 25, 1893, William Oscar Simonds, aged 49 years 1 month and 14 days.
William Oscar Simonds, son of Albert G. and Sarah W. Simonds, was born in Winchendon, Mass.,Feb. 11th, 1844. He enlisted in the 11th U. S. Infantry in August 1861, and was in active service from that time until May 1864. At the battle of the Wilderness he was taken prisoner of war, and was held as such ten months. Soon after his discharge he entered the Eastman’s Business college at Poughkeepsie, N. Y, where he was graduated Jan. 10th, 1870. He came west in February 1870 and located at Cresco, Howard county, Iowa. He was married March 25th, 1873, to Ellen Augusta Sherwin of Natick, Mass.
Deceased had been a great sufferer from a complication of troubles for nearly three years. He was a man of the strictest integrity, of high moral character, with a deep and abiding love for the good and pure in life. He leaves a widow and several children to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and doting parent.
