NEWTON - Funeral services for Lucile Powers of Newton, Iowa were held Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Interment will be held in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa.

Lucile, 88, died Thursday afternoon, April 30, 2015, at Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton.

Lucile Powers was born Sept. 24, 1926 in Cresco, the daughter of George E. and Lucile (Quist) Powers. She was a graduate of Cresco High School, Class of 1944, and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1948, with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Vocational Degree in Education. She taught school for several years at Berg Jr. High in Newton.

Lucile devoted her life to her family and was a member of the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ, Jasper County Retired School Personnel, Delta Kappa Gamma and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed being a teacher.

Lucile is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara J. Powers of Urbandale, Iowa.

Lucile was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William "Bill" Powers.
