Janette Opat, age 79, of Cresco, Iowa passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, at Notre Dame Parish, Cresco, IA. Burial will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery Schley, IA. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, IA 52136 with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of the service Monday at the church.

Janette Lillian Pechota was born September 24, 1935, in Protivin, IA, to William and Alice (Koudelka) Pechota. She was a graduate of Rudolphinum High School in Protivin. On September 22, 1954, Janette was united in marriage to Sylvester Opat at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Together they farmed near Schley, and in their later years of life enjoyed antiquing. As farming was not enough for Janette, they purchased the Protivin Steakhouse, and she later worked at L.J.’s in Schley. After Sylvester's passing, Janette moved to Cresco. Janette enjoyed going on casino trips with her friends, visiting nursing homes, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Janette spent her final days at the Cresco Care Center, where she received great care.

Janette is survived by her children, Mark Opat of Cresco, IA, Mick (Lori) Opat of Bluffton, IA, and JoDene (Jeff) VanDyke of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Amanda (Mike) Bergan, Jeremy (Jessica) Opat, Hannah, Emyleigh, Sarah, and Olivia Opat, and Jena and Brianna VanDyke; great grandchildren, Landon, Ethan, Noah, Garrett, and Avery; and sisters-in-law, Jeannie Pechota of Protivin, IA and Joyce (Richard) Jirak of Cresco, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alice; husband, Sylvester; brother, Gerald; daughter-in-law, Barbara Opat; and grandson, Hunter VanDyke.
