DUBUQUE - Mary Lou Ehlert, 78, of Ennoble Manor of Dubuque, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center, of Dubuque. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses on Saturday, March 21 Asbury Road. Burial will be in Cresco, Iowa at a later date.

Mary Lou Ehlert was born July 23, 1936 in Cresco, the youngest daughter of Selma (Anderson) and Albert Ehlert. She lived in Cresco until 1961 when she moved to Dubuque. Mary loved to be busy and worked until she retired in 2002, where she was a dietary aide of Luther Manor. Other jobs included Venture; the $1.29 store and Frontier Fruit & Nuts both in Kennedy Mall; ARBEE Oil Company and her long-time job as office manager at Steffen’s Standard Station on West Locust, where she was surrounded by family until it closed in the late 1970’s. Mary was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and had kept her faith to the end. She enjoyed going to dances and roller skating in her youth. She also loved to do embroidery, until her eyesight declined, at which time she took over the enjoyment of coloring with crayola crayons.

Surviving are her daughter, Penni Lou (Robert) Heinze of Peosta, Iowa; her oldest sister, Sucyn Tenney of Dyersville, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Joan Wernett of Cresco; a brother-in-law, John Steffen of Farley, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jolene (Jeff) Nasman of Ocala, Fla., Lisa (Randy) Kemp, Jeff Heinze, Lorrie (Mike) Wortley and Dale Heinze, all of Dubuque and Bob (Kris) Heinze of Peosta; 20 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews, Julie, Robert, Barbara, Sue and Jeff Tenney, Craig, Mark and Kim Steffen and Tina and Inez Ehlert.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wallace Ehlert, her sister, Barbara Steffen; her grandson, Dennis Heinze; her nephew, Shawn Ehlert; and great-grandsons, Brooks and Brantley.
