Leroy "Mort" Mohrfeld, age 87 of Elma, Iowa passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, Iowa.

Leroy Otto “Mort” Mohrfeld was born on November 22, 1927 to Joseph and Sedona (Rauenbuehler) Mohrfeld in West Point, Iowa. His family moved to the Elma area when he was still young. Mort attended and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1945. Upon his graduation, Mort entered into the United States Army and served his country during World War II. When he received his honorable discharge in 1947 Mort returned home to Elma. He was united in marriage to Luva Mae Gue-Richmond on August 21, 1948 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. The couple continue to make their home in Elma where they raised their three daughters, Linda, LuRae and Laurie. Mort owned Standard Oil in Elma and was the Standard Oil Agent for the area, as well as a well-known business man. It wasn’t until Mort retired that he turned his attention to farming which kept him busy throughout his golden years.
Mort enjoyed fishing and took numerous trips to Northern Minnesota and Canada. After retiring, Mort and Luva Mae spent many winters in Arizona and Las Vegas. It was on these winter getaways that he began painting in his free time. However, he loved socializing and truly enjoying his down time with friends and family. Mort was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Elma American Legion, Elma Sportsman Club and in his early years a member of the Elma Fire Department.

Mort is survived by his daughters, Linda (Linda Barnes) Mohrfeld of Las Vegas, NV; LuRae Mohrfeld of Elma and Laurie Van of Grapevine, TX; his grandson, Joey Barnes; two brothers, Lester Mohrfeld of Torrance, CA and Jerald (Evelyn) Mohrfeld of Austin, MN; his sisters, Marlys (Wally) Clark-Bustad of Austin, MN and Rosemary Prado of Fayetteville, NC and friends and family.
