Walt was born June 16, 1927 in Goodell, Iowa to Charles and Leona (Hood) Bielefeld. He served in the military from 1950 to 1954 first in the Navy and then in the Air Force. Walt married Lenora Scott on August 18, 1951 at Cartersville, Iowa. Walt and Lenora first farmed in Cerro Gordo Country for a few years prior to moving to Howard County in 1966. In addition to farming Walt also worked in production at Donaldson’s in Cresco, later as a security guard at Sara Lee in New Hampton and delivered trailers for Featherlite in Cresco. He retired from farming in 1999. Walt was a member of the Elma council #4144 of the Knights of Columbus, he enjoyed attending auctions and playing cards and spending time with family, friends and especially the grandchildren. During retirement he and Lenora enjoyed played cribbage every morning. Walt is survived by his wife, Lenora of Lime Springs; six children: Walt Jr (Patti) Bielefeld of Decorah, Debbie Fleming of Nashua, Sharon (Mark) Schnieder of Austin, MN, Mike (Melinda) Bielefeld of Lime Springs, Ann (Gary) Kruse of Hayfield, MN and Mary Bielefeld (special friend Don Ristau) of Lime Springs; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two siblings: Patty Smith of Mason City and Charles “Chuck” (Regina) Bielefeld of Verndale, MN. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings: JoAnn Smith, Daryl Bielefeld and William “Bill” Bielefeld; two sons-in-law: Ed Schmidt and Steve Fleming.

Visitation:
Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, February, 8, 2015, and also on Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church from 10:00 am until time of services.

Service:
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 14068 175th Street, Elma, Iowa 50628 at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015.

Cemetery:
Burial will be in the spring at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lime Springs, Iowa
