Karen Ellingson, age 69 of Cresco died Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Patty Elwood Center, Cresco, Iowa. Karen Joyce Ellingson was born March 28, 1945 in Cresco to Omer and Mildred (Hildahl) Ellingson. She attended Saude Lutheran Christian Day School as well as the Abner Hendrickson School. Karen was baptized and confirmed at the Saude Evangelical Lutheran Church of which she was a lifelong member. Karen worked in the laundry department at the Evans Memorial Home prior to moving to Clear Lake, Iowa where she lived and worked at Opportunity Village. She later lived in Mason City and continued to work at the Village. In 1998 she moved to the Residential Care facility in Cresco, now named Country Winds Manor. Karen enjoyed music, dancing and making needlepoint items. Over the years she won several gold medals at the Special Olympics at both state and national levels. Karen is survived by three siblings: Ken (Lou Ann) Ellingson of Spencer, Iowa, Karlene (Ron) Humpal of Decorah and Karol (Bud) Spores of Cedar Rapids; three nieces and nephews: Leisa (Chris) Knudson, Dan Ellingson and Tina Ellingson; three great-nieces: Serena Knudson, Sophie Knudson and Hannah Ellingson; an aunt, Hazel Hildahl of Cedar Falls; an uncle, Owen (Carol) Hildahl of Grand Rapids, Michigan and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, B.J. Spores.
