A Good Man Gone.

Tidings from Saratoga last week announced the death of Iris C. Chamberlain at his home in that town a day or so before. We are unable to write such an obituary notice of the deceased as is befitting his life and character from the facts at hand. The writer made his acquaintance in 1857 when we found him as a teacher in one of the public schools of the county. Though then a young man he showed the thoughtful traits and the manly independence of thought and integrity that characterized his entire intercourse through life with his fellow men. He had been a resident of the town upon the farm where he died for more than a quarter of a century. There he made his home, reared his family and there he saw the last of earth, surrounded by wife, children and friends. He had been in failing health for four or five years. While he was one of the most capable men of the county, his retiring disposition kept him from accepting places of responsibility and trust in the affairs of the public to which he would have been called had the public wish prevailed with him. We are unable to state his age at time of his decease, but from an acquaintance extended over about thirty-four hears we should say he was about 50 years of age or there abouts. With the bereaved family and friends of the noble dead we deeply symphathise.
