OBITUARY.

Michael Kennedy, one of the settlers of Howard county in 1856, died at his home in Afton township at the home of his son, Dennis Kennedy, Dec. 7, 1890, aged 71 years. Deceased was born in county Tiperary, Ireland, from whence he migrated, with his wife, mother and two younger brothers in 1849, locating at Elgin, Illinois, and from there moving to this county and locating on a farm in Howard Center in 1856. The companion of his youth died twenty-one years ago, since which his home has been with his children. Poor crops and poorer prices caused the loss of his home in Howard Center some years since: and, broken in health, he retired from the fierce struggle of life's battle for bread and a competence of worldly goods. Three sons and two daughters remain to revere his memory and emulate his virtues.
