Charles P. Riley, age 72, of Elma, IA, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at his home.

Charles “Butch” Patrick Riley was born on July 17, 1942 to Willis and Evelyn (Pospichal) Riley in Elma, IA. He attended Immaculate Conception Academy and graduated in 1961. Charles was employed at Oliver in Charles City and he hauled canned milk prior to entering the US Navy. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to home to farm and also continue to work for Oliver. Charles was united in marriage to Mabel “Annie” Smith on December 2, 1972 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, IA. The couple made their home on their present farm where they raised their five children.

Charles enjoyed all sports, watching Westerns, helping his neighbors and farming. He enjoyed spending time and playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Elma American Legion John Frahm Post # 597.

Charles is survived by his children, David (Sara Chambers) Riley of Conrad, IA, Gina (Russ) Foster of LeRoy, MN, Dr. Mary (Mike) Koenigs of Galena, IL, Amy (Ryan) Wisor of Clinton, IA and William (Makel Gebel) Riley of Elma, IA; his grandchildren, Krista, Lexy, Gracie, Drew, Megan, Caroline and Rylee; his sisters, Carrol Roy and Kathleen “Grooter” Riley, both of Cedar Rapids, IA; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel “Annie”; his granddaughter, Riley Foster; sister Jayni Blackburn; his brothers-in-law, Thomas and Clem Smith; Merle Wacha and sisters-in-law, Linda Smith and Sr. Mary Smith and Judy Smith.
