Mrs. Elizabeth Lockie

On April 20, 1846, in Glasgow, Scotland, a daughter was born to James and Janet Stevenson, the first of twelve children. This child was named Elizabeth.
When she was five years of age she with her parents came to America and settled in Texas. Here they lived until before the Civil War when they returned to Scotland.
When Elizabeth was eighteen years of age the family again sailed for America, leaving behind one daughter whom they never saw again. This time the family settled at Maple Leaf, Howard county, Iowa.
On April 16,1869, Elizabeth became the bride of Robt. J. Lockie, also of Howard county and they lived near her parents on a farm for twentyseven years. The labors of the farm being too much, they moved to McIntire, Iowa. Here they lived peacefully and happily until Feb.5, 1921, when Mr. Lockie passed away. Since that time Mrs. Lockie has lived here, each day endearing her more to her friends and neighbors, her patience and faith making her life an example to all who knew her.
Some time ago she became subject to neuritis and suffered much, until at last she hoped and prayed that her Saviour would give her blessed relief and take her home with Him. This prayer was answered Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, for very sweetly and painlessly she passed on to her reward.
To the union of Robt. J. and Elizabeth Lockie twelve children were born. Four passed away in infancy. Six of the remaining children were at her bedside when the Heavenly summons came. Besides hosts of friends Mrs. Lockie leaves three sons-Albert J. of Riceville, Iowa; Walter G. of McIntire, Iowa; Robert A. of McIntire, Iowa: and five daughter-Mrs. L. R. Thomas, Cucamonga, Calif.; Mrs. F. G. Marshall, Cresco, Iowa; Mrs H. A. Moss, Riceville, Iowa; Mrs. V. A. Morrow, LeRoy, Minn.; Mrs. C. A. Wall, St. Paul,Minn.: also twenty-six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers.
Mrs. Lockie was a good Christian woman, a conscientious member of the Congregational church and an earnest worker in the Rebekah, Royal Neighbor and Women's Relief Corps lodges, and will be missed from their ranks.
Elizabeth Stevenson Lockie at the time of her death was 81 years, 5 months and 14 days of age. And her days were full of peace.
