John Cashman, one of the early settlers of Afton township, died at his home in that town last week. Our acquaintance with the deceased began in 1856, when he was a resident of Iowa township in Dubuque county. He was upwards of eighty years of age, was universally respected, leaving a large circle of friends and relatives to rejoice in his good name and to mourn his demise.

Another article stated:

John Cashman, one of the old pioneer settlers of this section of country, died on last Thursday noon, and was buried at Cecilia the following Saturday. Many were out to pay their last respects.--Elma News.
