Another Old Settler Called Away.

Judge Darius Seely died at his home in Jamestown on Saturday last, at the advanced age of nearly ninety years. He came to Howard county in 1856, locating on the farm where he died, two miles west of Saratoga. We think he was a native of Delaware county, New York, removing from there to Iowa. In 1859 he was elected to the office of County Judge, Abraham H. Harris being the candidate against him. The contest was very spirited, the result close, followed by a contest, resulting in giving the office to Mr. Seely. Subsequently he held the office of Supervisor for several terms, was Justice of the Peace for his town, always discharging every duty with conscientious fidelity. Many years since his wife was stricken with paralysis, living an invalid ever thereafter until death came to her a year or more since. He leaves surviving him three children Mrs. S. W. Seely, Mrs. I. C. Chamberlain and Miss Jennie Seely.

Judge Seely always stood among the most energetic, enterprising men of the county, thoroughly alive to every good work, prompt in the discharge of every duty, a friend to every deserving, unfortunate person. He was loved and esteemed by all who knew the man, and those who mourn him most are those who knew him best.
