THOS. KOSHATKA

LOURDES PIONEER,

DIED FRIDAY

-----------------

Had Been Resident of

Lourdes 42

Years

------------------

Mr. Thomas Koshatka, for 42 years a resident of Howard County and the Lourdes community, passed away at his home on Friday morning, October 27, after an illness of nearly two years duration. While his illness had been quite prolonged, his death was quite unexpected by his family and his friends.

Thomas Koshatka was born at Cleveland, Ohio, on September 28, 1861, and was 72 years old at the time of his death. He was a son of Jacob and Catherine Koshatka. He came to Iowa when a young man, living in Winneshiek County for a time. He was married to Miss Anna Polda on September 23, 1884, and shortly after moved to the farm near Lourdes, which has since been the family home.

Mr. Koshatka , in the more than forty years of residence in this community, had become one of the most highly respected and best-loved citizens of Paris township. He and his family did a great deal in the building up of the Lourdes parish, both from the standpoint of community life and church life. His passing will be greatly felt by the entire community.

Mr. and Mrs. Koshatka were the parents of ten children, five boys and five girls, all but one girl and one boy survive. Henry Koshatka died at the age of fourteen months and Mrs. Gilber Waldemar passed away April 28, 1938.

He is survived by the sorrowing widow and the following children: James Koshatka of Traer, Iowa, Mrs. Carl Miller of Stone City, Iowa, Mrs. C. Eiffler and Ed Koshatka of Lime Springs, Iowa, Harry Koshatka at home, Mrs. A. Hidding, Mrs. C. Haskovec and Frank Koshatka of the Lourdes community. He also leaves several brothers and sisters, granchildren, nephews and nieces, all of whom will miss a loving husband, a kind and indulgent father, a splendid neighbor, and a warm friend.

Mr. Koshatka was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church. He has been a valued member of the Our Lady of Lourdes parish during his residence here. The last rites of the Catholic Church were administered to him by his pastor, Rev. F. J. Renier, who also was in charge of the funeral services, and read the Requiem Mass. Services were held in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Monday morning, October 30th, and interment was made in the cemetery adjoining.

The funeral services were attended by the entire family, besides a great number of friends and neighbors from the entire community. We join all the friends of the family in extending deepest sympathy in their great loss.
