Cyrus L. Bentz is Dead.

The melancholy occurrence between Wm. B. Marsh and Cyrus L. Bentz of which we made mention last week, resulted in the death of Mr. Bentz, which sad event took place between six and seven o’clock Friday evening, Jan. 23. From the time of his injury up to the hour of his death he was nearly all the time unconscious. In this sad visitation let us not forget that another family is deprived of father and husband, that another home than the house of the dead is made desolate, that innocent children and a sorrowing wife and mother are face to face with gaunt hunger and pinching cold. That the rash, inexcusable and unpardonable act of Mr. Marsh should bring the just sentence and punishment of the law upon himself is for the safety and security of society, but “the rarity of Christian charity” may properly do what it can to turn aside the shafts of anger and malice which would enlarge and make more hideous the skeleton in the closet of the Marsh family. Nor do we think that Mrs. Bentz if she is the true, noble and heroic woman we have believed her to be would desire to add one needless pang to the unfortunate wife and children of Mr. Marsh. That she should desire just and legal punishment for the man who dealt the death blow to her husband, no matter what the seeming provocation is both reasonable and right. All right minded people deplore the unfortunate occurrence, universal sympathy and sorrow of our people go out to the widow and her fatherless child.
