J. W. Mitchell, one of the pioneer settlers of the county, departed life on Friday, the 19th inst., at the ripe old age of nearly 77 years. He was born in Palmer, Mass., in 1807, was married I Vermont in 1831, burying the wife of his younger days several years ago. He raised a large family of sons and daughters. The sons living are Henry B. Mitchel and J. B. Mitchell; the younger son, Cassius, dying in the service. The daughters are Mrs. Wheelock, of Decorah, Mrs. D. D. Arms, Mrs. Elisha M. H. Brown and Mrs. Walter Schofield, of Cresco. The deceased was a good citizen, a good husband and an indulgent parent, loved and respected by his children.
