Eliza Barnes was born in Canton, St. Lawrence county, New York, July 6th, 1818. There she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to Wm. Barber Jan. 9, 1838. Eight children were born to them, five sons and three daughters. Three of these preceded her to the Heavenly land. Of the five children who survive her all but one are well known residents of Cresco and vicinity, Emmett being a resident of Tulare, Cal. After a brief illness she died in this city at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Geo. Richards, March 2. She leaves twenty grandchildren. She united with the M.E. church at the age of sixteen and gave to the church seventy-two years of faithful services. Funeral services conducted by her pastor, Rev. John Gammons, were held at the M. E. church Tuesday morning at 11:00.

Mrs. Eliza Barber passed away last Saturday morning at the home of Geo. Richards in Cresco after a short illness. The funeral was held this forenoon from the M. E. Church. An obituary of the deceased will appear in our next issue.
