Winnifred M. McGrane, age 85, of Cresco, IA, formerly of Chester, IA, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Cresco Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, IA, with a scripture service to follow. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church.

Winnifred “Winnie” Margaret Reicks was born August 26, 1928 in Hoven, South Dakota, daughter of Joseph and Susan (Jax) Reicks. On June 2, 1948, Winnie married Virgil J. McGrane, and were the first couple to be married at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Chester. Together Winnie and Virgil ran the McGrane Sundry in Chester for several years. Winnie enjoyed taking two of her grandsons out to eat at her favorite restaurants, attending church bazaars and dinners, and talking with the “Six O’Clock Club.” She also spent her time crocheting, attending to her flowers, and feeding the outdoor cats.

Winnie is survived by her son, Kenneth (Connie), 4 grandchilren, 7 great grandchildren, her siblings, Roger (Carole) Reicks of Chester, IA, and Alice Rethamel of New Hampton, IA, sister-in-law, Marlene Reicks of New Hampton, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Winnie in death are her parents, husband, Virgil on January 16, 1994, brothers, Delbert and Melvin, and brother-in-law, Merle Rethamel.
