FRED BURR,FORMER CRESCO BUSINESSMAN, DIES IN HOME HERE
Native of Toronto, Canada, Served Two Terms as Cresco Fire Chief
Funeral services are being held this afternoon in the Methodist church for Fred Burr, 76, well-known Cresco resident and former Cresco businessman, who died in his home late Sunday night.
The Rev. Robert Butler, pastor, will conduct the services and burial will be in the Oak Lawn cemetery. Members of the Cresco fire department are planning to attend the funeral services in a group, Mr. Burr having been a member of the department from its beginning and having served as fire chief for two terms. The Bradley Funeral home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Fred Burr was born in Toronto, Canada, January 8, 1876, the son of Stephen and Jane Burr. He came to this community as a child. He was married to Josephine Bilek September 25, 1901, and the couple became the parents of six children.
Mr. Burr operated a garage in Cresco for a number of years under the firm name of Wentworth and Burr, and later was employed as mechanic for the Iowa State Highway commission. He retired from this work about five years ago.
Surviving Mr. Burr are his wife and children, Mrs. L.B. (Gladys) Cunningham of Des Moines, Mrs. H.H. (Hazel) Webber of Cresco, Dr. Charles Burr of Des Moines, Mrs. R.J. (Helen) Bateman of Des Moines, Kenneth Burr of Cresco , and Mary Jane Burr of San Francisco, California.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Lillian Genshow of Saint Paul.
Preceding the Cresco man in Death were his parents; a brother, Russell Burr , and two sisters, Libbey and Emma.
