Mrs. R. Betts Funeral Held Mon., July 21
Succumbs at Hospital After a Brief Illness

Sorrowing relatives and friends filled the First Lutheran Church to overflowing Monday, July 21, when funeral services were held for the late Mrs. Roy Betts. Mrs. Betts passed away Friday, July 18 at Mercy Hospital after a short illness. She had been active both in her home duties and church affairs almost to the day of her sudden passing, even assisting in the preparation for serving at the Ladies Aid of her church on Thursday preceding her death, but being prevented from attending by the sudden attack which claimed her life within a few hours.

Sunday, June 13, she had attended a reunion of the Bjorgo family participating in the program and other festivities.

Gevina Rosalia Bjorgo was born in 1894, at Sring Grove, Minn., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Bjorgo, and was the youngest of a family of eight children.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Big Canoe church by the Rev. K. Seehus. In 1917 she was married to Roy Henry Betts at the Big Canoe Church by Rev. T.O. Tolo and since that time made her home on the Betts farm northeast of Cresco.

She leaves to mourn her sudden passing her husband, Roy Betts, four children: Wayne Leroy, Mavis Eleen, Verna Evangeline and Ruth Audell. Also surviving her are her three sister, Mrs. Melvin Peterson, and Mrs. Olaf Peterson, both of Spring Grove, Minn., and Mrs. Arne Lee, Mabel, Minn., and Henry of Austin.

Funeral services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. H.M. Normann, who used as his text, "For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain" Phil. 1:21. Special music at the home and the church rendered by Miss Inez Skogsmark, Decorah, who sang "Jesus Priceless Treasure, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and "Abide With Me." Miss Skogsmark was accompanied by Mrs. Normann.

Interment was made in the family lot at Oaklawn Cemetery.

The many beautiful floral offerings bore mute testimony of the degree of respect and affection with which the deceased was favored among her wide circle of friends. In addition to the flowers, memorial gifts were given to Luther College Radio Station, St. Olaf College Radio Station, Foreign Missions, Home Missions, The Aase Haugen Sunset Home and the charities department of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America.

Mrs. Betts will be long remembered as a devout Christian mother. She received Holy Communion from her pastor shortly before being taken to the hospital. In her daily life, she was always ready to sacrifice for her loved ones, and will be sorely missed, not only in her home but within her church and friendship circles.

Those from a distance who were in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Betts and family, St. Charles, Ill.; Nora, Katherine and Emma Norgard, Highlandville, Iowa; Mrs. Mike Bakken and Mrs. A. Berquam, Spring Grove, Minn.; Mrs. Sam Swenson, Mrs. Nora Larson, Mrs. Reinhardt Lien, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ingvaldson, Mr. and Mrs. S.O, Sacquitne, and Mrs. Alphine Bjorke, all of Highlandville, Iowa; Misses Helen and Ella Bue, Decorah; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Barnes, and Miss Ellen Ellingson, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Libbey and Ronald, Waterloo; Mrs. Bernice Halvorson, Mr. and Mrs. Roman Lee, Gordon and Vernon Bjorgo, Austin; Mr. and Mrs. Harold, St. Mary Caledonia; Miss Benore Lee, Lacrosse, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Oren Morern and family, Harmony, Minn; Miss Inez Skogsmark, Decorah; aslo the brothers and sisters of the deceased and their families.
