Harold Blomgren services held

Funeral services for Harold Blomgren were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 16 at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. The Rev. Gary K. Lee officiated. Pall bearers were his grandchildren, and honorary pall bearers were: Charles Miller, Paul Ristau, Don Burr, Robert Byrnes, Ray Baumgartner, Elmer Sjurson, Ronald and Eugene Bronner.

Harold, 86, died Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Harold Henry Blomgren was born October 3, 1913 in Bluffton township in Winneshiek County, the son of Elmer and Ida (Hermann) Blomgren. He was the oldest of seven children. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on November 16, 1913 and confirmed on November 19, 1961. Harold completed the eighth grade in the rural schools in Howard County. Harold served less than a year in the Civilian Conservation Corps, while it was stationed in Cresco.

On October 8, 1938 he married Sarah Elizabeth Offen in the Presbyterian parsonage in Mason City.

Harold worked as a hired farm laborer, then in 1945 they started farming on their own. In 1955 they bought a farm in Orleans township in Winneshiek County. They farmed this farm for 40 years, then they sold the farm and moved into Cresco.

Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years Sarah; one son: Eugene of Spring Valley, MN, and one daughter: Sharon Bronner of Cresco; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Fern Schmauss of Cresco and Violet Pedersen of Mabel, MN.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Lyle and Marvin; and two sisters: Gladys Hart and Lillian Bujan.
